About Us

The work starts where the real problem is, not where it appears.

Most performance problems that land on a leader’s desk are symptoms. Delivery keeps slipping. The floor is not executing. The team is capable but something is not working. The presenting issue points somewhere, but rarely to itself.

Underneath almost all of it is the same root cause: disruption has outpaced the leadership system meant to absorb it. Layoffs, reorgs, leadership transitions at scale, the kind of change that does not wait for the org chart to catch up.

Cain Advisory exists to close that gap. To build the clarity and capability required to resolve performance problems at the source, not just manage the symptoms they produce.

Charles Cain, Executive Coach · Leadership Advisor · ICF PCC · CTI CPCC

Charles Cain has spent more than 30 years inside complex organizations as a developer, database administrator, network engineer, project manager, director, and enterprise Agile coach. Along the way, he survived twelve rounds of layoffs over ten years. Then the thirteenth round didn’t survive him.

That experience is what makes his coaching and consulting work different than most. He doesn’t work from theory. He has been the most capable person in the room and still not trusted his own next move. He has also done everything right and still been the one who got cut. He has led global technology portfolios through organizational disruption, coached senior leaders through the behavioral shifts that determine whether change actually takes hold, and sat inside environments where the stakes of getting it wrong were regulatory, financial, and human.

That background informs every engagement he takes on today. He doesn’t coach disruption as a concept. He coaches it as something he has lived through, more than once.

Charles holds the Professional Certified Coach credential from the International Coaching Federation and the Certified Professional Co-Active Coach designation from the Co-Active Training Institute, the same rigorous, peer-evaluated standards used to vet coaches for enterprise leadership work.

He is also a certified Leadership Circle Profile 360 practitioner and holds enterprise coaching credentials through ICAgile.

His work spans technology and IT leadership, retail operations, and executive coaching. Three domains that look different on the surface and share the same root question: how does leadership hold steady when the environment won’t, and what does it take to build that steadiness in ways that hold?

That shows up in how he treats people, not just how he approaches problems. One person who later worked alongside him chose the role partly hoping to learn from him. On their first day, they ended up seated in the next cube. Charles spent time getting them oriented to the business environment, the process, the delivery expectations, time he often did not actually have to spare. That kind of mentorship was not part of anyone’s job description. It is just how he works.

“Charles’s gentle and empathetic approach sets him apart as a coach. He encourages individuals with patience and understanding, creating a safe, motivating space where team members feel empowered to grow and innovate. His guidance in Jira has been instrumental in optimizing workflows and enhancing team productivity, allowing us to leverage the platform’s full potential. Charles’s commitment to fostering an environment of continuous improvement and collaboration has made him a cherished and respected mentor. Any organization would be fortunate to benefit from his wisdom, expertise, and unwavering support.”
